Mustard Seed Yellow Dresser

Ugh.
Not sure what happened earlier, but some of you saw my rough draft for this post!
Gotta love Mondays.

It's pre-show time here, which means there are painting projects going on in the middle of my house, and pricing the small items has taken over our dining room table.
I'm not gonna lie- it's not pretty.
Such is life.

If you are near (or far!) plan on coming to Junk Salvation in Hillsboro, Oregon!
I'm gathering up some awesome stuff for this show.
January 31 (6-8pm) is a $20 paid entry shopping event and getting first dibs on everything.
Last year I sold two pieces of furniture the first night, so if you have stuff you really want, get there early.

Saturday is $7 at the door, and usually pretty crazy busy.
It's such a fun show, and one that I look forward to every year.

On with the real deal~
Most of you know that I usually do neutrals for my furniture.
Specifically, white.

But this was a redo piece, and so I went in a different direction.
I bought some pretty wood appliqués from D. Lawless Hardware, and added them to one of the drawer fronts.
I think subliminally I was thinking they looked like Miss Mustard Seed's logo, and decided to paint the dresser in her signature color, Mustard Seed Yellow.

It was so fun to do a color!!
Hopefully I will have better luck selling this on that decision for round 2…

I applied 3 coats of the milk paint.
The first coat was really yellow.
I mean spot on, mustard yellow.
Kudos for that, but it's a bit of a stretch for my usual color palette, so I decided I would tone down the second batch.
The color you see here is actually two parts Linen and one part Mustard Seed Yellow.
It toned it down just slightly to make a buttery yellow.

I had fun doodling on the sides- I added in some white vines down the side panels.  Just some white craft paint that was slightly watered down.

The appliqués also got a wash of white, and I freehanded some white border insets on the drawer fronts.
Everything got a light distress around the edges.

Want to see the before?

Yep, our former entry way dresser.

This post has spawned another idea about furniture…stay tuned.
Have a great start to your week!

P.S. I guess since I started this out about projects for Junk Salvation, I should mention that this one isn't one of the pieces I'm bringing with me.
This one is getting swapped out at Bella Hill for a table that I will be taking with me to the show.
:)

  1. I think yellow was a sweet choice for this pretty dresser! And getting ready for a sale always seem to take over my house too. I hope it's a huge success for you!

  2. Both dressers are just beautiful--what a lovely job you do! The yellow is so pretty. I have been drawn to yellow lately--maybe because I am starting to yearn for sunshine! See you at the show!
