gray and gold dresser

Hi!!
I have been so excited to get this dresser completed!
I picked this up at the same estate sale where I got our new living room cabinet.

It's a little more mid century than I normally prefer with my look, but it has some nice curves to it, and once I started thinking about colors, it all rolled together.

This started out as a wood and laminate top piece.
Yep.  Laminate.
Here was the before:

After painting:

Can you tell that it was a shiny plastic finish under there?
Me either!

I never even blink at those kinds of pieces anymore, because chalk paint covers it so well.
I used Annie Sloan French Linen.

I've also seen several beautiful examples of gray and gold together, and decided I would love to try the dipped leg look on this piece.

I picked up an uber nice can of spray paint from our local artist supply shop, The Art Department.
Montana Gold spray paint.

Even the can is pretty fancy.
This gives a liquid gold look, and has a lacquer finish.

In fact, I would recommend that any sanding you need to do on a piece that requires a smooth finish, is really smooth prior to spraying.
I think I'm going to have to go back and touch up a few spots.

I thought I'd done a good job before I started to paint, but getting it in the right light, you can see some nicks still.
drat.

I also resprayed the knobs so they matched the gold legs.
It looks like jewelry now.

Despite that hiccup on the legs, I'm really excited about the results of this piece.

So nice to get a furniture project done!
It feel like it's been awhile for me, huh?

If I have a hole to fill at Aunt Bee's House, then it will go there, but as of right now, I'm hoping it can go to the Farmhouse Show with me- three weeks away!
You can keep tabs on it on my Facebook page.

xo Denise

  8. Hi! I love this makeover!

I stumbled upon your blog from Pinterest and searching for laundry room ideas! I LOVE your laundry room makeover! I am moving soon and am house hunting now. The house I love is beautiful, but the laundry room needs a little love! If we get that house, your laundry room is totally my inspiration! I even bought an old metal lunchbox like you have! :o) LOVE!

  10. Wow doesn't look like French Linen. That color can look so different at times. Will say I love the gold accents with it! Came out great!
