farmhouse fall porch decor

Fall has definitely settled in here!
This past week, I decided to embrace it, but I am still a die hard summer lovin girl.

Here is a peek at our front porch all decked out in it's fall glory.

I changed things up a bit from previous years- no corn stalks for starters.
This time of year, the wind kicks up and I find myself going out multiple times a day to prop the stalks back up.
I just don't need that kind of high maintenance in my life!!

I've always liked the rich look of millet, and I love having something that I can keep around and not toss out just because the season is over.
For a long time now, I've been wanting one of these plants, so I finally decided to get one.

So soft and fuzzy.

I was excited to find a wrought iron plant stand with 3 tiers - even though it was the middle of summer when I found it, I immediately thought of it for holding our 3 pumpkins for fall.

I brought Mr. Owl back out this year.
Our thrifted fall guy painted in white.  You can see that post here.

I think what I love about fall is that it's a time to slow down and take a breath.
I love noticing little details like these:

Perfection.

I've added in a few elements to our porch for year round enjoyment, and I haven't really shown any of  that until now.

Last spring I bought a rusty black baker's rack from a vendor at Aunt Bee's House.

Gwen always has an amazing array of salvage and vintage in her space- she's also the person I bought our "Union Jack" window frame from.
Love.

The sign over the rack might look familiar- I posted a photo with it's twin shortly before Junk Salvation last year.  The same store that I bought the original from had a second one, and I always liked it, so I brought it home for the porch.

Some apple cider, apple cider donuts and gorgeous dahlia's for our table.

I like the mix of orange and pink- it goes well with the transitional summer-to-fall look on our porch.
The pillows are a mix of new and past projects.
I gave a quick and simple tutorial on the flannel shirt pillow covers here.

The owl pillow is new.
I made it from leftover drop cloth fabric, and my freezer paper stencil technique.
I decided to give it a funky look and cut around the owl and then stitched it in black thread onto the pillow cover.

Before we say goodbye, I also wanted to show you our plaster urn that I have on our porch landing:

It was formerly a faux mossy green.
I brought it to several shows to sell, and it never went home with anyone, so I decided to give it a little patina with Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint, in Ironstone.
I just dabbed it randomly all over the surface with the end bristles of a paint brush.

I love that it looks like a crusty weathered garden piece.
I painted it early this summer, so it has held up beautifully between sun and rain.

Thanks so much for joining me on my porch today.
We really do enjoy sitting out here, enjoying the view, saying 'hi' to neighbors, and welcoming friends for a beverage.
It's one of the best parts of our home!

If you'd like to see how our fall porch has evolved over the last few years, you can find posts here and here.
Happy Fall!

xo Denise

    1. Thanks Debra :) Yes, I wondered if any feathered friends would visit the millet. It's been so stormy here, I don't think they've ventured here yet, but it would be fun to see!
