cabinet makeover with fun details

One of the questions I get asked a lot is, "where do you get your stuff?"

I kind of cringe when I hear this- for me, it's like someone asking, "how much do you weigh?"
(actually, I think I'd rather answer that question sometimes.....)

So, here's the answer I usually give:
I get my stuff anywhere, and everywhere.

Because I do.

If something appeals to me and I see the potential, I nab it.

Curbside finds, hand me downs, estate sales, thrift shops, garage sales....
doesn't matter.

This cabinet dresser was sort of a hand me down.
A relative posted it on Facebook a month ago, and I really liked the drawers inside.
The price was good, and I said "I'll take it!"

I do a lot of white for furniture and this one was already white, but it just needed a new look, so I went the opposite direction.

I put new knobs on- the black and white flower knobs were from Michael's.

I thought it would be fun to do an application on the drawers inside, so I added these metal tags from D. Lawless hardware.

The interior drawers were painted in a garden green.

I know they look kind of aqua here.
I did a custom blend of General Finishes Sage Green and Crystal Aqua from Lowe's.
So there is a hint of blue, but really they're more of a green!

I distressed the whole piece and waxed it.

Now it has a new look, and lots of potential!
Craft, bedroom, nursery....
Such a great piece.

I'm happy I could share this one with you before tomorrow- a super busy day!!
My mind is reeling with everything.

I also wanted to say thanks for all the lovely comments on my other posts this week.
I've been able to respond to a few, but not all.
Today is finalization day before this weekend's show, and even writing that makes my stomach knot.

If you are coming to the Deepwood Vintage Market and you've gone in the past, you need to know that I am in a different spot this year!
I will be closer to the house, on the front side.
I'll have my sign up, so hopefully you can find me.
I'm also putting a note on my FB page.

Thanks for letting me share this quick post!

  1. Hi Denise!!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to show us this
beautiful piece of furniture. Love the color and love the way you
used metal tags on the drawers!!

In fact I love the drawers themselves!! I'm so use to seeing just a shelf
behind the two doors, but, I really love the four drawers instead!!

    Love the knobs as well!!

Have a great weekend and don't forget to take a break once in a while!!

    1. thanks Pam! It was a fun piece to re-do. And thanks for thinking of me- I had a great "catch up day" yesterday. Relaxing day with family and just getting caught up around home. :) Life will be at a normal pace for a bit now!
