teen bedroom makeover - day 1

I hope you all had a nice Valentine's Day and weekend!

We spent the evening at PF Chang's (it has become an annual tradition) and took Jon's mom with us this year.  It was her first Valentine's day without her sweetheart.

Thank you also for the sweet comments on Bella's Valentine!
She earned a doggie meatball for her modeling job.
;)

This weekend, we started working on Hannah's new bedroom.
She is moving into what was her playroom- a bigger space and larger closet, with lots of light.

Here are some of the before pictures before we began painting:

We have been talking for a month or so now on what she wants, color scheme, feel of the room, etc.
I have been pinning tons of stuff on Pinterest, and then asking her what she likes and doesn't like on those spaces.

One thing she wanted was a dramatic black ceiling.
A modern space.

So for the better part of Sunday, I spent my time getting black freckles.
I quickly learned that safety glasses are a must- so many paint splatters coming down on my face!!

It definitely adds a dramatic impact to the room, and I think it will look really cool when it has all come together.

I used Behr's paint + primer, in Black Suede.
We went with a flat enamel.
Next we primed the apple green walls.

We will finish that job later today, but since it is a holiday, we plan to head to the blue and yellow land of meatballs and modern Swedish furniture.

Her new bed is already in the room, and it is super comfy.
Jon and I are so jealous!
Our mattress needs to be replaced soon too, but for now, hers was the priority.
The bedding is all purchased, so we are starting to really get moving.

More updates soon!

  3. What a great idea to paint the ceiling a darker colour. Will take a look at your pins.

  4. I'm in the process of redoing my oldest daughter's room. We're going from hot pink to white walls. I wanted to try the 2in1 paint & primer from Behr hoping it would make the job easier, and it did!! Covered all that pink in two coats! I LOVE the black ceiling! Can't wait to see it all put together!
