greige table and a goodbye to summer

The sun is shining, I'm with my two favorite people in the world, but it is bittersweet.
The last day of summer vacation.

Tomorrow, my one and only starts middle school.

I am going to miss having her home with me.
I love school breaks when I can have her all to myself again.

I am also super nervous for this new journey for her.
Middle school was an awful time for me.
And that's all I know- most everyone else I know said they loved it.

I only think back to being bullied and the impact that had on my life.
Say a prayer for us if you think of it!

(Hannah can't wait to go back to school, so I'm thankful she's not apprehensive...)

Those sentiments aside, I am also trying to pace myself so that I am getting done everything I can before the Deepwood Vintage Market that is less than 2 weeks away!  eek!

This table is my most recent furniture project.  I picked it up earlier this summer, and have been pondering what color to put on it.
With the chunky legs and great detail, I wanted it to have a sophisticated, layered look.

Annie Sloan's French Linen, and some highlights in Old White.

Here was the before:

I'm still working on my relationship with Dark Wax.  I feel like I am starting to get the hang of it, and I may offer up my own "how I figured it out" tutorial soon.

I love French Linen.
It is such a fantastic, versatile color!  The perfect Greige color.
{def. Greige: Grey + Beige= Greige}

I used just one sample pot of French Linen for the entire table.  It was a stretch by the end, but by adding a tad of water to the last bit, I was able to get two coats on!
Every last bit scraped out!
Definitely will be looking at getting a full can of this for the future.

Some distressing on the edges:

It is a hefty piece.
I think it would be perfect for an entry way, or as a small game table.
It's a bit on the tall side, but if you had an oversized couch, it would fit beautifully as a side table.

The frame was something we got this weekend.
Hannah went with me to some estate sales.
She is the best spotter!
This was her find of the day for me.

I will be taking both of these pieces with me to the Market.
You can click on the info card at the top of my page to see date, time and info on the sale.
As far as I know right now, I will be in the same spot as last year.
Several new vendors will be at Deepwood, so I know you will not want to miss it!

Willamette Valley Cheese Co. and Cafe Venae will have food available, and the incredibly creative Sarah, Pam, and Deepwood staff have a great theme planned for lots of fun!

  1. Good luck to your middle schooler. It was not good for me either- not good at all. My kids had wonderful experiences so I guess it is not generational.

I love that table. It is just gorgeous. The colors are perfect. On my screen it actually shows up as a soft pink and lavender. Isn't it funny how colors translate from camera to computer to another computer? If you figure that dark wax out let me know. I don't seem to work well with others...I mean other in DARK wax. xo Diana

  2. I have 3 kids in middle school this year. I agree with you it is a hard time in a kids life. It is a difficult age. I wish your daughter the best! Thanks for sharing you did that whole table with a sample size. I am waiting for Amy to get the samples in. Where did you get yours?

  3. Oh Denise you have done a beautiful job with this. if ASCP ever comes to Australia i will definitely we buying the french linen paint. looks beautiful and i love the white trim.

  5. Gorgeous makeover - love the details on this table!

  6. This table is a lovely find! Yes French Linen is a gorgeous colour, easy to decorate with. A great neutral.

I agree with you, there's a learning curve with the dark wax. It would be great for you to share what you have learned in a tutorial.
