beach dresser...yes, I know I *said* I wanted a full time job....

Wow.
This little thing called PinkPostcard, is quickly becoming a full time job!!
Friday night I went to bed and took the new Pottery Barn catalog with me.  It must have given me a burst of creative energy or something, because I really could've gotten back out of bed and started decorating around the house.  Instead I just dog eared a bunch of pages and went to sleep.
Saturday I woke up ready to organize and get going on naggy little projects around the house.  And then I got a call that the bench had sold from my booth- and I just took it there two days ago!
I had this dresser waiting in the wings, so fortunately, I was able to get going on it to take it down and fill the spot.

I stocked up on some more Annie Sloan paint a few days ago, and I am so glad I did.

This humble little dresser started out very much like the "Bossy" dresser.

I love this style for the simple lines.
I used ASCP Duck Egg Blue for the body, and Pure White for the drawer fronts.

I've been wanting to do a beach dresser for awhile, and this seemed like the one.

Some little clam shells added to the fronts.

I distressed it quite a bit with both sandpaper and the Annie Sloan dark wax.  I gotta admit- the dark wax has definitely been a learning curve for me!  The color really sticks if you use it on it's own, so using it in conjunction with the clear wax helps to mellow it out a bit.

I love the clear wax!!!!  I kept thinking of "The Help" where Minnie is extolling the virtues of Crisco.  It's very much the same consistency- very creamy.  :)
"...Crisco....need a dresser with a good satin finish?  Crisco!"
Just kidding!!!  It was AS clear wax, I promise.

Anyway~  I love how it turned out, and it's now at my booth filling up my space again.  I was in desperate need of some storage in there- both the bench and my white hutch sold within 24 hours of each other!!
kinda crazy.

Thanks for letting me show you the before and after.  I have a vintage humidor I found Sunday, so I'll be featuring that one soon.  The lamp you see on the dresser was another quick project I'll show tomorrow.  Hopefully my house will get some decorating projects underway if I could ever get to them!
Not complaining though!
:)
Happy Monday!

  8. It's no wonder your projects are selling so quickly. I love what you did with this tired old dresser and the shells are the perfect touch.

  13. The dresser turned out so cute and the lamp goes perfectly with it! These are sure to be more hot sellers for you! Glad to hear that your booth has been such a success! It can be so hard to have backup pieces ready when things sell so quickly! But it's a good problem to have! You may want to consider bumping up your prices ;) I have had a lot of turnover with furniture lately, too...so the last table I took in I priced a little higher than I normally would...just until I had more pieces to bring in!
    Happy painting!
    Best Wishes and Blessings,
    Amanda
