Ok, so I am feeling a little guilty that I haven't posted much in the way of decorating here in a bit, but once the show is over, I will have some projects that have been waiting on the back burner....
And then Christmas season is around the corner!
I finished up this little bookshelf today- it is such a cutie. A creamy white shabby finish.
The handle was broken off when I found it, so I added this really nifty one from the Martha Stewart line (at Home Depot). I also added in the label:
Here was the before picture:
And some of the detail:
Like I said, such a cutie! It's only about 4 feet tall, so it would be great for a kids room or in a little nook.
My other rehab was this footstool.
It was crusty and rusty in a not so chic way. Kind of a 1970's "basement western hoe down" look.
I thought it would be much prettier in a raspberry velvet and glossy white paint.
Some shiny new nail heads were added too.
I have to share a funny story with the velvet. One of my favorite local vintage shops, Serendipity Vintage Furnishings, had a yard of this velvet for sale. It was exactly the color I was looking for- pink undertones rather than a true red.
I took it up front and asked if I could keep it at the counter while I finished looking.
When I came back to check out, I handed the lady my check and she looked at it and said, "Oh yes, I thought so- you're Denise from Pink Postcard!"
I was so shocked and flustered by the recognition!!
We had a nice little chat, but in my flustered state I totally forgot to ask her name. :( I know, so rude, but I hope next time I'm in I can use my manners with my head on straight!
Kind of a surreal moment!
And last, this gorgeous gold mirror. It is solid wood, has gorgeous carving and detail, and I just couldn't paint it. Normally I'm not usually loving gold mirrors, but this one is pretty amazing.
I love the flower details on the inset sides,
...and, to me, it looks like a sacred heart at the top of the mirror.
I staged this in our bathroom above our tub... kinda thinking it looks pretty awesome here....
hmmmm.....
It is supposed to be going to the market with me....
Yes, definitely. I have to.
Maybe.

I had to share the annual first day of school photo. Hannah has had every first day photo since kindergarten in front of this little chalkboard:
I am so proud of her, and yet I get a little watery eyed seeing this.
It's going way too fast.
Such a beautiful transformation! I love that you saw the beauty of it beyond first impression. And the little footstool is adorable! I love the bright red color!
