kitchen makeover - day 1 before photos

I can't decide if I'm nervous or giddy right now.  I think I've been giddy leading up to this, and finally getting the white kitchen cabinets that I've been wanting...but now nervous as I know how huge an undertaking this is going to be.
I yi yi.

Everytime I would see a kitchen makeover / tutorial over the past few months, I would read up on it.  So I feel like I've done the 'research'.  ;)
We also got a quote from a painter last year on getting these done.
ouch.
So here we go!
Today is just the before photos, and these were all taken last August.  I didn't have time to do photos last night because I was TSP'ing the cabinets and taking the doors off.
It was kinda fun in seeing these and what we've done already to the nook and surrounding spaces!

This is the main view.  In the original post, I complained about all the BROWN.  I love high contrast so I think the white cabinets will look great with these floors.  The structural post that you see here is also going to be painted white and given some crown moulding at the top.

That little red wall clock is already in my new craft studio...We have a bigger one there already.
A new chalkboard from one of my purchases at the I ♥ Thrifting party will go in the exisiting space.

Sometimes I feel like Captain Kirk at the control panel when I'm standing at the island working and talking to guests.  I love this big island.  It's not super functional when it comes to the nook (not enough space to get around the table) but it's great for parties and a buffet line.  All of the hardware you see here will be switched out.  Glass knobs and farmhouse pulls will be put on.

I never could decide if I loved these island light pendants.  My husband wasn't a huge fan- they're a bit much for our tastes.  My hope is to find some 4" cord kits to switch these out and add schoolhouse globes.  It's such a classic look, and one I gravitate to all the time.
Any suggestions on where to find them??

The other view of the island.  We are going to add some trim insets- between each corbel.  Also, the base boards are going to get beefed up with a 4" moulding.

And finally, the view from the nook.
I am so excited!!! Everytime I see a wood to white makeover my heart swoons.
Making our house truly 'us' is so exciting.

Wish me luck and send some prayers for stamina my way!
I will try and post some mini updates on my Facebook page today.
More on Thursday!

  14. So excited to see your transformation! We just got a quote to paint our cabinets white. Definitely an "ouch" moment, but I just don't know that I have the time/energy to do them myself. Maybe you'll inspire me... :)
