from bold red to beachy blue

This is a room Nate Berkus did on the Oprah Show- when I saw it, I was in love! I used this as some of my inspiration for our own makeover. I ♥ the gorgeous chandelier- he definitely put the wow front and center. I am going to try and find my own 'wow' piece, sans chandelier. I know they are so great in master bedrooms, but we use our fan 365 days a year. So....we will see what comes up!

Here's part one of the master bedroom makeover! I traded out the red duvet cover for a pale blue striped quilt, kept the existing bed ruffle, and swapped out some pillows from other areas of the house! The large shams were made from some fabric I'd kept from a window covering in a previous house. I lightened the wall color from the taupe to a creamy color called Indian White from Benjamin Moore. (I actually started with what I thought was a cream color and it just looked plain old white, so I repainted.) Thanks mom, for the color suggestion! *wink* The mirror was located on another wall, and was gold- I did a quick whitewash on it to highlight the great texture on the frame. Stay tuned for the ceiling inset paint project!

The lampstands were what we had in the red scheme room- these were also gold tone, I thought they'd look great with another quick swipe of some pale blue paint (soon to be seen in the master bath makeover). I swapped out the lampshades for these- they have great texture with a sort of burlap look to them. The white wrought iron piece had been in our office, but I never liked it in there. It fits much better in the bedroom.

We've had this dresser FOREVER. It has always been in the natural pine finish, and it was overdue for a makeover, for sure. I whitewashed it, leaving some of the woodtone showing through for a distressed look. I swapped out the brass knobs for the vintage looking glass knobs. I like it so much better!! I don't think I will have to talk my husband into switching out the gargantuan TV on top for a sleeker flat screen in the future.....

I always love some element of nature throughout the house. Even though I wanted a beach feel to the room, I didn't want too much that was literal. There will be some accessories that will lend to that a bit.

The curtains were formerly a red silk. I found these curtains at Lowe's on clearance! $20 for the pair. I love the bamboo blinds, and they fit in great with everything that has been swapped out!
Thanks for checking it out!
Tomorrow I will be starting a new feature- Foodie Fridays!
see you soon~
